Stalybridge is a one-horse town, but it has a surfeit of take-aways and bars which have taken over the old industrial buildings but it only takes a cold, rainy day for the former mill town spirit of the place to re-assert itself.

Very atsmosperic. Your handling of oil pastel is very painterly! Taking on the same mood and feel as your oil paintings :)
Have you heard of the Oil Pastel Society? (www.oilpastelsociety.com)
They have a newsletter and gallery space for members.

you catch these dark,grey,rainy old town scenes so well sheila.
here in wales are plenty of sad towns as well,they can't be good for your health and spirit...sigh
I kind of like them Rob - when I was house hunting 20 odd years ago I tried looking around leafy south Manchester where the academics live and it just didn't feel right. I guess my roots are here. And we do have great countryside on our doorsteps both of us!
